Lani John Tupu (born
November 4 ,1955 inAuckland ,New Zealand ) is aNew Zealand actor , best known for his portrayal ofBialar Crais on the hit TV seriesFarscape (he also provided the voice of the Pilot in that show; hence, he was featured in nearly every episode).He trained as a teacher at the Teachers’ Training College in
Wellington, New Zealand , but had had a long interest in acting. He originally became well known in New Zealand as the lead, Dr Miller, in the prime-time soap "Country GP " (1984 –5), which replaced a popular, long-running series, "Close to Home". He remained on the show for two seasons, before shifting toAustralia to continue his career there.He landed guest roles in Australian
TV series , as well as the Australian-filmed "" of1988 –9. He returned to New Zealand screens in a lead role in "Marlin Bay " (1991 –3).Early in his career, he used an Anglicised version of his name, Larney Tupu. He also uses Lani John Tupu.
Lani also works as an Artist with many of his limited edition prints and lithographs sold and auctioned by MiamiSciFi.com. He has also sold at several galleries. His work includes scenery of places he has visited, abstracts, composites and theme based series.
