Marion Stein

Maria Donata Nanetta Paulina Gustava Erwina Wilhelmine Stein, CBE (born 18 October 1926), known as Marion Stein, is an Austrian concert pianist and, as a former Countess of Harewood, is also a former member of the British Royal Family.

Born in Vienna, Stein was the daughter of musician Erwin Stein.^[1] She led a distinguished musical career and was joint founder in 1961 (along with Fanny Waterman) of the Leeds International Piano Competition.^[2]

Stein has married twice, both times to prominent public figures:

1) George Lascelles, 7th Earl of Harewood,^[1] on 29 September 1949. Lord Harewood, son of Mary, Princess Royal (1897–1965), was the grandson of King George V, the nephew of his mother's brothers, the kings Edward VIII and George VI, and the cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. The marriage was dissolved in 1967. They had three sons:

• David, 8th Earl of Harewood (born 21 October 1950)
• The Honourable James Lascelles (born 5 October 1953)
• The Honourable Jeremy Lascelles (born 14 February 1955)

2) The Rt. Hon. Jeremy Thorpe MP (then Leader of the Liberal Party (married 1973).
