Cardwell Hall

Cardwell Hall

Cardwell Hall is a building on the northwest part of the campus of Kansas State University. It was constructed in 1963. It is currently the home of the Department of Mathematics and Department of Physics.

The Department of Physics has major research programs in high energy, condensed matter, atomic, molecular and optical (AMO) physics, and in physics education. The AMO group operates the James R. Macdonald Laboratory, which contains a Tandem van de Graaff accelerator, atomic superconducting linear accelerator, EBIS and ECR ion sources, and most recently, an ultrafast laser facility. The lab and its equipment, located in the sub-basement of the building, is used for studying atomic collisions. The building is named in honor of Dr. A. B. Cardwell who became head of the Department of Physics in 1936.
