Founded in the 1883 as a railway construction camp,
steamships loaded with supplies for building the railway called at this place, known then as "Isbester's Landing." Named for railway contractor, James Isbester, who was in partnership withRobert Gillespie Reid , responsible for many of the bridges built for theCanadian Pacific Railway , along the north shore of Lake Superior. The C.P.R. remains as one of the town's biggest employers. The town's economy is also sustained by a pulp mill in Terrace Bay, which is located 15 minutes away.Town of Schreiber
