- Madan Mohan Lakhera
Lieutenant General Madan Mohan Lakhera, born in
1937 and educated at theRashtriya Indian Military College ,Dehradun , is the presentGovernor of the Indian state ofMizoram . He has held that position since July 2006. Previously, he was theGovernor of theUnion Territory ofPondicherry ,India from 2004 to 2006. The first file he signed after assuming charge inPondicherry was on implementing the Rs. 5.5Crore free rice scheme to cover families under thepoverty line and to acquire land for distribution of sites to landless people. He had told the press that he would endeavour to makePondicherry a model state ofIndia . Lakhera also served as the Acting Governor of theAndaman and Nicobar Islands from February 2006 to December 2006.ee also
