Andaman and Nicobar Islands , as well as precursor offices of similar scope, from the start of British resettlement of the Andaman Islands in1858 , at which time it was subordinated toBritish India .In
1947 , the Andaman and Nicobar Islands achieved independence from theUnited Kingdom along with the rest ofIndia . After independence, the chief commissioner and, later, the lieutenant governor, has been appointed by thePresident of India . The current Lieutenant Governor isBhopinder Singh .
