On
November 1 ,2006 at approximately 2:20 PM, a fire broke out in a chemistry lab office. The school was severely damaged and had been declared a total loss. All of the students evacuated the building and nobody was lost or injured. The building was demolished due to safety concerns. OnDecember 7 ,2006 , it was reported that the cause ofNovember 1 fire was ruled as arson, and a $10,000 reward was being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for setting the fire. TheGuilford County Sheriff's Department has spoken with "people of interest" who they believe may have been involved with the arson.On
November 8 , seniors and juniors resumed their classes atGuilford Technical Community College 's Greensboro campus. Shortly thereafter, onNovember 14 , sophomores and freshmen resumed classes at the vacant North Carolina Central School for the Deaf campus. New School Construction
As of now, the students of Eastern Guilford are attending classes at a "pod village". The new Eastern Guilford High School building is currently being constructed. The school will be of the same architectural design as the recently constructed
Northern Guilford High School , and will have a capacity of 1,600 people. The estimated date of completion was originally January of 2009, but has since been moved back to April of 2009.
