- Swepstone
Swepstone is a village and
civil parish in theNorth West Leicestershire district ofLeicestershire ,England , about five miles south ofAshby de la Zouch . The parish includes the villages of Swepstone andNewton Burgoland .Swepstone farmers regularly sold their cattle in local market towns. In 1597 three Swepstone farmers, Richard Dudley, William Chilwell and Thomas Burrows were called to give evidence in an archdeaconry court case. It is recorded that the three were drinking together in an alehouse near the market square while their beasts were tethered outside. [http://www.elizabethi.org/uk/essays/fair.html] The church regularly has fun events and every Christmas they put a star on the church that can be seen for miles around. During spring time there are numerous daffodils along the road side. Swepstone is a pretty village all year round. It is not too far from Ashby and Coalville so although it is secluded - it isn't quite the middle of no where. Swepstone's only Pub is The Odd House, a quiet country pub that serves good food. The village Hall sometimes holds coffee mornings and the swings outside are a legend among some of the children that go there.(And their parents!)With new houses being built and more being planned it seems that Swepstone's life as a small village isn't going to last long.
Strangely the cats in Swepstone outnumber the people.
