"St. Petersburg" is a song from British rock band Supergrass' 2005 album, "Road to Rouen". It was released on 8 August 2005 as the first single from the album and charted at #22 in the UK Singles Chart [ [http://www.strangeones.co.uk/music/stpetersburg.htm The Strange Ones Supergrass Site ] ] (see 2005 in British music).

Change of style

"St Petersburg" was a change of style for rock band Supergrass by choosing a more acoustic and folk approach than before, as was the rest of their "Road To Rouen" album, which received the same kind of mixed response from critics. This change exhibited in "St. Petersburg" came as disappointment to some fans prefering the more 'poppy' songs delivered in previous Supergrass singles, such as "Grace" and "Caught By The Fuzz", but for others it was a turn for the better, not only keeping existing fans happy but accumulating new ones.

Due to leaving the more mainstream style that Supergrass were associated with before, the song only charted at number #22, and also did not qualify for any "Now" collaboration albums as other singles had done.

Music Video

*Director: Borkur Sigthorsson

The music video begins the same time as the song starts, focusing on a shot of the microphone on its stand. Gaz Coombes then comes into view, singing the first line of the song, and the camera rotates slowly around the rest of the band. The video is set in a completely white room with the band demurely dressed and a distinct red wooden piano being played by Rob Coombes.
