- Queens Park, Swindon
Queens Park is a public park, located near the Regent Circus area of
Swindon town centre. The park is approximately 12 acres in size, with a lake which is roughly convert|2|acre|m2.
It contains a diverse range of ornamental trees and shrubs.
Located within the park is The Garden of Remembrance, which was officially opened by Princess Elizabeth on November 15th, 1950. The gardens purpose is to commemorate the people who died in
World War II .Desmond Morris andDiana Dors used to spend time in the area of the park before it was developed.Although currently subject to opening hours, Swindon Council is likely to change the opening times to 24 hours per day, mainly as a way to cut down the costs of upkeep and overseeing of the park. Residents are concerned that this may lead to an even larger criminal/undesirable element being drawn to the park after dark.
The Queens Park Community Council recently launched the first ever Swindon based Community Council website, which includes photographs and historical information about Queens Park. The website also invites those living in the area to participate in local events and meetings.
