Grupo Sumol

Grupo Sumol (Sumol Group) is a Portuguese company headquartered in Carnaxide, near Lisbon. The companies in the Sumol Group manage brands, manufacture and distribute soft drinks, juices and nectars, waters and beers.

History

Sumol Group was established in 1945 when Refrigor, a limited company was incorporated to produce soft drinks. Ever since and right down to today, it has developed through strong business commitment and progress, due in particular to constant technological improvement, a focus on consumer preferences, high quality products, and effective dialogue with consumers. Close attention to the size of the distribution network and development of human resources have also helped ensure that Sumol Group today is one of the largest operators in Portugal's fast moving beverages market and the market leader in some of these categories.

In 2005, Grupo Sumol acquired 20% of Compal, a rival Portuguese company. As of August 2006, the Eusébio family from Portugal, owner of Grupo Sumol, was in talks with Caixa Geral de Depósitos to buy the remaining stake of Compal.

Organization

Sumol Group consists of nine companies:

- Sumolis is the parent company responsible for integrated group-wide management. It holds franchise distribution contracts for Pepsi and 7 Up brands - owned by PepsiCo - and for Guaraná Antarctica brand - owned by Ambev;

- Sumol Gestão de Marcas is in the soft drinks and fruit juice business. Its portfolio includes, among many others, the prestigious Sumol brand. Its international markets division provides backup to other Group manufacturing business;

- Sasel operates in the mineral water business. It holds the Água Serra da Estrela brand, one of the best known and most widely consumed spring water labels in Portugal;

- Cereuro operates in the beer market, and launched the Tagus brand, a high quality alternative to the standard labels available in Portugal;

- Cibal, handles marketing and distribution for the group's full range of products in Portugal;

- Cinalda is an in-house company, providing back office services to Sumol Group companies.

- Madibel and Codibal manufacture, package, market and distribute beverages in Madeira;

- Brassumo manufactures, packages, markets and distributes beverages in some states in Brazil.
