Centre for Manx Studies

The Centre for Manx Studies ( _gv. Laare-Studeyrys Manninagh) is the main centre on the Isle of Man for the study of the Isle of Man, the Manx language, and Manx culture and history.

The Centre for Manx Studies is an academic unit of the University of Liverpool located in Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man, and managed by a committee with representatives from the three partner organisations Manx National Heritage, the University of Liverpool and the Isle of Man Department of Education.

Its primary functions are to teach students, to carry out research in Manx archaeological, cultural, environmental and historical studies, and to further the international recognition of the Isle of Man in these areas.

The Centre is part of the [http://www.liv.ac.uk/sace/ School of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology] . It offers both postgraduate taught and research degrees on the Isle of Man. Its two taught programmes, the Postgraduate Diploma and MA in Manx Studies, are taught on a part-time basis only over the course of one and two years respectively.

One of the Centre's core activities has been the production of a five volume "New History of the Isle of Man", which is published by Liverpool University Press.

The Centre's e-journal, [http://www.manxstudies.ac.im _gv. "Studeyrys Manninagh"] , brings together fully refereed articles, record series, theses, bibliographies and catalogues and is freely available.
