- Bair Island
Bair Island is 2,600 acres (11 km²) of marsh located in Redwood City,
California and is part of the largerDon Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge . Though portions of Bair Island are owned by the State of California as theBair Island State Ecological Reserve , the entireisland is managed by the Refuge. Bair Island provides critical habitat for a variety ofspecies , including theendangered California clapper rail and theSalt marsh harvest mouse , and is an important stop forbird s on thepacific flyway . An important part of South Bayecology , Bair Island has been discussed for decades as a prime area for conservation and restoration.See also
