*Ted Breitenstein pitches a no-hitter against the Pittsburg Pirates on April 22.
*Boston wins again: five championships in eight years under manager Frank Selee, twelve in the club's 28 seasons. There will be one more before the move to Milwaukee in 1953.

* FA Cup - Nottingham Forest beat Derby County 3-1.
* Both the First and Second divisions are expanded from sixteen to eighteen teams, bringing the total number of League sides to 36. Additionally, the test match system was abandoned in favour of automatic relegation and promotion.

Horse racing

*May 4 - Plaudit wins the Kentucky Derby
*June 11: Jockey Willie Simms became the only African-American jockey to win all three races of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing after he rode Sly Fox to victory in the Preakness Stakes.

Ice hockey

* March 5 - Montreal Victorias win the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada (AHAC) championship and the Stanley Cup. It was their fourth AHAC championship in a row and second straight Cup title.
* December 10 - The first championship ice hockey league, the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada (AHAC) disbands over a dispute to allow a new member in its senior league. The Canadian Amateur Hockey League (CAHL) is formed to replace it, from the clubs seceding from AHAC.
