- William White (architect)
William White, F.S.A. (1825 - 1900) was an English
architect , famous for his part in the 19th CenturyGothic revival . He was the son of a clergyman and great nephew of the writer and naturalist,Gilbert White ofSelborne .After a 5 year apprenticeship in
Leamington Spa he moved toLondon as an improver inGeorge Gilbert Scott 's practice where he remained for two years before setting up his own practice inTruro in 1847. In 1851 he returned to London and worked out ofWimpole Street . His style was close to that ofWilliam Butterfield and he built many churches.Works, including restorations in Cornwall
