Wilson was born in Bolsterstone, Stocksbridge, Yorkshire, England, and educated at Uppingham School and Trinity College, Cambridge.[2] He was ordained in 1899.
He died in February 1944, at the age of 68, in Calverhall, Shropshire, England.
Rockley Wilson, his brother, also played for Yorkshire and England.
