Cuca (folklore)

Cuca (folklore)

Cuca (from Portuguese), also known as "The Cuc," is a female monster from Brazilian folklore. It is an ugly old alligator that eats disobedient children. There is a very popular lullaby in Brazil about it:

: Sleep, baby,: Because the Cuca wants to take you: Daddy go to the garden: Mummy come straight back

Apart from the lullaby, the monster remains popular today only as a literary character of books by Monteiro Lobato and by television programs for children "Sítio do Picapau Amarelo".
