Volodymyr Stepanovych Holubnychy ( _ua. Володимир Степанович Голубничий, born
June 2 1936 ) was an Ukrainian race walker who competed for theSoviet Union .He was born in
Sumy .He dominated the 20-kilometre walk in the 1960s and 1970s, winning the total of four Olympic medals. Holubnychy began athletics in 1953 and became a member of the USSR National Team in 1959.cite book|title=Panorama of the 1972 Sports Year|year=1973|pages=p. 109|publisher=Fizkultura i sport|location=Moscow|language=Russian] Apart from his outstanding performance at the Olympics, he was the 1974 European Champion and the USSR Champion in 1960, 1964-65, 1968, 1972 and 1974.
Holubnychy was awarded the
Order of the Red Banner of Labour in 1960, theOrder of the Badge of Honor in 1969 and theMedal For Labour Heroism in 1972.References
