footnotes =Stokmarknes Airport, Skagen Airport codes|SKN|ENSK (Norwegian: Stokmarknes lufthavn, Skagen) is an
airport inHadsel municipality inNorway , 3nautical mile s (5.6 km) east northeast ofStokmarknes . The airport opened in the early 1970s as part of a government program of building a series of small airports along the coast. This was a major success and an important step for the population in the area (Vesterålen archipelago ), who now could travel to the bigger cities of Norway and the rest of the world in one day, not weeks. There is work in progress for extending RESA and improving the strip around the
runway , for completion in the fall of 2006. At the moment Widerøe is the only approved scheduled air carrier to operate from the airport, using Canadian builtDe Havilland Canada Dash 8 STOL (short take-off and landing) aircraft. Other traffic include theNorwegian Coast Guard sDornier Do 228 and ambulance flights (MEDEVAC ) usingBeechcraft Super King Air s. Currently owned and operated byAvinor , the airport was managed by the Hadsel municipality for the first 20 years.Destinations and airlines
