Maxmagnus is a comics series featuring an eponymous character, created in 1968 by Italian comic book creator Max Bunker and comics artist Magnus, for the magazine Eureka.[1]

Synopsis

Set in a generic Middle Ages, Maxmagnus is a fable of dark humour, with every character portrayed in a negative, grotesque way. The king (Maxmagnus, whose name was composed by the nicknames of the two creators) is an avid regent with the sole intent to invent new taxes to exploit his citizens; the Amministratore fiduciario ("Trustful Administrator") is trustful only in name, a true thief who manages to rob something in nearly every panel. Among other characters are the Queen, jealous and envious, and the Princess, silly and unpleasant. The king's subjects suffer hard labour and overwhelming taxes, and spend their spare time plotting revolutions they are too inept to accomplish.

Publication history

Maxmagnus was published in 1968–1970 in the form of 4/6-panels short histories, and the issued in a regular series in the 1980s, with art by Leone Cimpellin.

Maxmagnus was also published in French, Serbian and Croatian.
