Peggs is a small unincorporated community of 100 residents in Cherokee County,
Oklahoma ,United States . The post office was establishedDecember 6 , 1899. It was named for Thomas Pegg, acting principal chief of theCherokee Nation during the Civil War. A large minority of its residents are Native American, most of them members of 10 tribal groups such as theCherokee Nation and the Muskogee Nation of Creek Indians. One of Oklahoma's deadliesttornado s hit Peggs onMay 2 , 1920, killing 71 people.Facilities
