Australian International School, Indonesia
- Australian International School, Indonesia
Introduction
The Australian International School - Indonesia (AIS-Indonesia) is based in Jakarta, Indonesia, but also has schools on the Indonesian Island of Bali and in Balikpapan in Kalimantan. The School bases itself on the Australian system and uses the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) curriculum framework in years P-10 and offers courses accredited by the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (BSSS) in Years 11 and 12.
History
AIS Indonesia was founded in 1996 in response to a demand for inclusive education within the international schools in Indonesia. Prior to the formation of AIS, children with special learning needs were not accepted by any international school in Jakarta.
With the involvement and support of professional educators, diplomatic and commercial representatives as well as a group of committed parents, the school opened on 15 July 1996 with an initial enrolment of eleven students.
Today, more than 650 students thrive in an environment where they enjoy the benefits of a world-class Australian education. Three well-resourced schools offer Kindergarten to Year 12 classes with specialist support for students with learning difficulties, limited English language proficiency or physical disabilities.
