- West Kowloon Corridor
West Kowloon Corridor (zh-tspcy|t=西九龍走廊|s=西九龙走廊|p=Xī Jiǔlóng Zǒuláng|cy=sai1 gau2 lung4 jau2 long4) is part of Route 5 in
Hong Kong . Bypassing existing surface roads inWest Kowloon , it connectsLai Chi Kok Road inCheung Sha Wan with theGascoigne Road Flyover nearYau Ma Tei .The highway was built in 4 phases:
*Phase 1 (1977) consists of a flyover 1.3km (0.8mile s) long, linkingGascoigne Road andFerry Street . This section is characterised by the section of road going through Yaumatei Carpark Building.
*Phase 2 (1983) includes flyovers between Cherry Street inTai Kok Tsui andYen Chow Street inSham Shui Po . It runs on separate viaducts in each direction: southbound traffic goes overTung Chau Street andTong Mi Road , while northbound traffic goes over Cherry Street andTai Kok Tsui Road before merging over Tung Chau Street.
*Phase 3 (1987) carries on over Tung Chau Street to meet Lai Chi Kok Road inCheung Sha Wan .
*Phase 4 was completed in 1997, connecting the flyovers of phases 1 and 2.To make way for the new
Fu Cheong Estate , the off-slips at the old terminus on Yen Chow Street were demolished; they have yet to be replaced.Particularly, many red public minibus routes which serve between
New Territories West (Yuen Long ,Tuen Mun ,Tsuen Wan orKwai Chung ) and Kowloon South (Mong Kok or Jordan Road) orHong Kong Island are routed via West Kowoloon Corridor so as to provide faster routes toMong Kok ,Yau Ma Tei andJordan to avoidtraffic congestion inSham Shui Po .External links
