Barbara Ann Kipfer

Barbara Ann Kipfer (born 1954) is a linguist and lexicographer. She has written more than 40 books, including "14,000 Things to be Happy About" (Workman).

She holds a PhD and MPhil in Linguistics from the University of Exeter, a PhD in Archaeology from University of Greenwich, an MA in Buddhist Studies also from Greenwich University, and a BS in physical education from Valparaiso University. She is Managing Editor/Chief Lexicographer for Dictionary.com, Thesaurus.com, and Reference.com. She has also worked for such companies as Answers.com, Ask Jeeves, idealab, Mindmaker, General Electric Research, IBM Research, Wang, Bellcore (Telcordia), Cymfony, Textwise, and Knowledge Adventure.

Works

In addition to "14,000 Things to be Happy About", Kipfer has authored "Instant Karma", "8,789 Words of Wisdom", "The Wish List", "1,400 Things for Kids to be Happy About", and the forthcoming "Self-Meditation" for Workman Publishing. Her other books are "How It Happens", "4,000 Questions for Getting to Know Anyone and Everyone", "Life of Language", and "Trivia Lovers’ Book of Lists" (Random House); "Roget's International Thesaurus" and "Dictionary of American Slang" (HarperCollins); "201 Little Buddhist Reminders" and "1325 Buddhist Ways to Be Happy" (Ulysses Press), "Encyclopedic Dictionary of Archaeology" (Kluwer Plenum); "Archaeologist's Fieldwork Companion" and "Dictionary of Artifacts" (Blackwell).
