The Pragati Maidan hosts the World Book Fair annually.

The World Book Fair, held in Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, is India's oldest book fair. Started in 1972, this biennial event takes place in early February, and is organized by the National Book Trust, India (NBT). It is the largest book fair in India and has a more economic side, supporting also the growing markets of neighboring countries. India is third in the range markets for/of English publications, believed to have 12,000 publishers and around 90,000 titles a year in more than 18 languages. India's main publishing is in Indian languages. 2006: 1.294 exposers on 38.000 square meters (2004: 1.205 / 32.546); 1 Million visitors (30 % plus). 18 countries: USA, Bangladesh, France, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Canada, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Germany. Where India, as the first country appearing a second time (first was 1886) is the guest 2006 of the Frankfurt Book Fair, because of the vivid growing market (infos in preparation of guest-stage /German book fair-newsletter).
