Gold Creek School

Gold Creek School

"Gold Creek School" first opened in 1996 as 'Nicholls Primary School' in the suburb of Nicholls, ACT with Dr William Maiden as principal and an opening enrollment of 230 students. The school catered for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Much attention was paid to the school as it was unique in that it shares its campus facilities (library, gymnasium, playing fields and canteen) with neighboring school 'Holy Spirit Primary'

In 1998 a secondary school campus was built opposite the primary school and the two schools became known as 'Gold Creek School', Primary and Senior site, respectively, with Dr William Maiden as principal for both campuses. The primary site was changed to cater for student in Kindergarten to Year 5, with Year 6 to 10 being located at the senior site. "Gold Creek School" became widely known as it was the first school ever in Australia to implement a middle school program (6-8) attracting much attention from overseas visitors. Since then many other schools have also taken up the middle school program, most recently being Amaroo School.

The school logo was a result of a 'Design-a-Logo' competition run by the school in 1998. The winning design was from Year 8 student Jeff Mahlberg. The design's symbolism is the representation of the architecture of both schools, the primary site being on the left and the senior site on the right, with a creek separating them down the middle. The logo also incorporates the school colours.

In August 2004, Dr William Maiden announced his retirement from principal of "Gold Creek School" after 8 years. The start of 2005 sees a new principal for Gold Creek School, Mr. Ross Butlin. Mr. Ross Butlin retired at the end of 2006 and 2007 brought forth a new principal for Gold Creek School; Ms Sue Jose.
