Attorney General's campaign, 2006

In August 2005, Senator Skip Campbell announced his candidacy for Attorney General of Florida. Campbell was opposed by Merrilee Ehrlich primary on September 7, 2006 for the democratic spot for attorney general. Some local papers had speculated that Ehrlich was being paid to run against Campbell so that Campbell would have more name recognition. This claim was backed up by the fact that Ehrlich had spent almost no money or time campaigning and had raised no money but her own for her campaign. On September 7, 2006 Senator Campbell won the primary against Merrilee Ehrlich. He then ran for Florida Attorney General against Republican Senator Bill McCollum, to whom he conceded defeat during November 7 elections.

Campbell is seriously considering a run for the state Senate against Jeff Atwater in Atwater's Palm Beach County district. Atwater is in line to become Senate President and his defeat would change the makeup of the Senate. Campbell has deep pockets, major connections and political experience, he could be very formidable.
