Dollar mountain

Dollar Mountain is a part of the Sun Valley, Idaho ski area and that caters primarily to beginner and lower intermediate skiers. The primary mountain for the Sun Valley ski area is Bald Mountain, or "Baldy". The treeless Dollar Mountain is served by four chairlifts called Dollar, Half Dollar, Quarter Dollar and Elkhorn. All of these lifts are doubles except for the Elkhorn lift, which is a triple chairlift that is separated from the other three. The base of the Elkhorn lift is at Elkhorn Village, but it is possible to ski between the Dollar and Elkhorn sides. A magic carpet is also available for first-time skiers, as well as a tubing hill. The Half Dollar chairlift serves a terrain park for snowboarders. Dollar Mountain consists of trails that are gentler in pitch and shorter in length compared to the trails at Baldy. The vertical rise is 628 ft. (191 m) compared to Baldy's 3400 ft (1036 m). A new day lodge at the base of Dollar was constructed and completed prior to the 2004-2005 ski season and is comparable in spaciousness and style (massive timber, river rock, & glass) to the day lodges at Bald Mountain. New for the 2006-2007 season is the installation of permanent snowmaking on some of the ski runs on Dollar, ensuring better snow coverage during periods of low snowfall. In Winter 2007, Earl Hollding announced plans to replace both the Dollar and Quarter Dollar lifts with high-speed detachable quads for the 2007-2008 ski season. The two old lifts are currently being demolished to make way for two new Doppelmayr CTEC Uni-G model detachable quads.
