Chevalliers of Aspall Hall

The Chevalliers of Aspall Hall are a wealthy, noble and prestigious well-known family in Britain. They were particularly celebrated in the 18th century. Descendants of the family still exist.

The Earl Kitchener

Originally from the Channel Islands, near the French Northern Coast, they moved to Suffolk, England in the second half of the 17th century where they bought 300 acres (1.2 km2) of land, and an English-style manor, Aspall Hall.

Possessors of Aspall Hall, male line

  1. Temple Chevallier-Stowe (1674-1722), bought the Aspall estate from the Brooke family. He had no issue, so the property passed to a close relative:
  2. Clement Benjamin Chevallier (1697-1762), son of Clement Chevallier (1674-1719) and Lady Marie Dumaresque (died 1737). He married Lady Jane Garneys of Mickfield (1693-1752).
  3. Temple Chevallier-Jeffery-Garneys (1731-1804), married Lady Mary Fiske.
  4. Rev.John Chevallier (1774-1846), who married first Lady Caroline Hepburn of Wisbech (1776-1815) (from her were born: Mary Boutell née Chevallier-Hepburn (1809-1880), Caroline, married 1839 Thomas Kinder of St Albans, John Clement, John, George and Charlotte Sophia—all died as infants), his second wife was Emily Blomfield Syer (they had two sons), and at last Elizabeth Cole of Bury St Edmunds, mother of Frances Anne, mother of Horatio Kitchener.
  5. Mary Chevallier (1809-1880) and her husband The Rev. Charles Boutell's or Boutwell (1812-1877) issue:
  6. Arthur Brandon Chevallier-Boutell (1849-1921) who with Josephine (Josefina) Boris-Garcia Osorio had fifteen children: Caroline, Arthur Brandon, Clement, Christina, Josephine, Bella, Wilfred, Ernest Barrington, Frank, Mary Alice, Constant, Allan, John and Dora (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
  7. Sir Francis Hepburn de Chevallier-Boutell (1851-1937), Knight of St John, married Rosa Granero (1861-1937), native of Montevideo, Uruguay. Their children: Mary (1877-1968), married Walter Bassett-Smith, Frank, married Eva Cook and had two daughters, Rose and Irene, Maud, married Sir J.Adams, Bertha Chevallier-Boutell, married Sir Sidebottom and after, Sir Mark Webb Reder, and Charles C Boutell (had issue).
  8. Mary Chevallier-Boutell (born 1837). Died unmarried.
  9. Charles Chevallier-Boutell (born 1844). Died unmarried.
  10. Lady Caroline Ellen Alice Chevallier-Boutell (1843-1882), married Sir Nathanael Fromanteel Cobbold. Their son, Col. Clement John (1882-1961), who married Lady Stella Cameron, was father to Cameron Fromanteel Cobbold, 1st Baron Cobbold (1904-1968), Governor of the Bank of England, Lord Chamberlain of Queen Elizabeth II. He married Lady Hermione Cobbold, née Bulwer Lytton of the Earls Lytton of Knebworth (Victor, 2nd Earl Lytton (1876-1947) and Lady Pamela Chichele-Plowden)
