Nao Bustamante is a
performance art pioneer originating from theSan Joaquin Valley ofCalifornia , USA. Her work encompassesperformance art ,sculpture , installation,video art ,pop music and experimental rips in time.International Artist
Bustamante's work has been presented at the
Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, theSan Francisco Museum of Modern Art , and the Kiasma Museum of Helsinki. She has performed in galleries,museums , Universities and underground sites throughoutAsia ,North Africa ,Europe ,New Zealand ,Australia ,Canada , Mexico and of course the United States. Her collaborations include working with such luminaries asCoco Fusco andOsseus Labrint . In 2001 she received the "Anonymous Was a Woman" fellowship. Currently she is living inTroy, New York and holds the position as Assistant Professor ofNew Media andLive Art atRensselaer Polytechnic Institute .Controversy
Her role as an academic and performance artist became controversial during the
recall election of GovernorGray Davis in California, where her eldest brother, Lieutenant Governor of California,Cruz Bustamante ran against film actor and former bodybuilderArnold Schwarzenegger .
