Peter Schaefer (born July 12, 1977 in Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan, Canada) is a Canadian ice hockey left winger, currently playing for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. He was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. As a second-line, two-way forward, hockey fans refer to Schaefer as a player for defensive playing style.

Playing career

Schaefer was first traded to the Senators in 2002 for Sami Salo of the Vancouver Canucks.

After an Eastern Conference championship, with a Stanley Cup loss to the Anaheim Ducks in five games, Schaefer was traded to the Boston Bruins on July 17, 2007. Bryan Murray, the team's general manager, admitted Schaefer requested a trade on a couple of occasions during the season, and Schaefer was not as productive in scoring as his role as a two-way forward should have. He was traded for gritty forward Shean Donovan, this trade provided more salary cap room for the Senators. []

Peter has a younger brother, Nolan Schaefer, who is a goaltender for the Houston Aeros as part of the Minnesota Wild organization.
