Venus Dee Milo is a fictional character from the Marvel Comics universe, that was member of the mutant superhero group X-Statix. She appeared in the first issue of that series and was created by Mike Allred and Peter Milligan.

Venus Dee Milo's name is a pun on the ancient Greek statue known as the Venus De Milo. The statue is recognizable due to the fact that it has been damaged and is missing both arms; Venus Dee Milo's costume is designed to reveal that she has no visible arms.

Fictional character biography

Her mutant powers manifested during a spat with her family when she was a little girl; the explosion completely destroyed her grandmother's home, and Venus grew up believing that she had killed her entire family. Venus struggled with manic-depression and made numerous suicide attempts, but finally attempted to join X-Force so that she could redeem herself.

Following the death of X-Force members and a change of the superteam's name to X-Statix, Venus Dee Milo was considered as a possible replacement for the recently deceased U-Go Girl. The Orphan initially rejected her as he was still in a state of mourning for U-Go Girl, thought that he himself was insane and also thought she was too pure to be a part of X-Statix; he changes his mind, however, when Venus took him to the site of her family's death and explained her past to him [X-Statix #1] .

On one of her first missions, she transports a "dirty bomb" far below the surface of the ocean. This effort stuns and disorients and she is forced to spend some time in a specialized chamber, apart from her suit.

Alongside the group, Venus confronts Bad Guy. She also deals with the fear of her cousin Jamal, who used to mentally torture her. [X-Statix #6] . Meanwhile, Venus and The Orphan begin dating and fall in love [X-Statix #8] . During some down time she then treats herself to a shopping spree [X-Men Unlimited vol. 1 #41] . Professor X completed work on a second containment suit specifically designed so that she could take part in sexual intercourse. When Venus and Guy began to make love for the first time, Venus spontaneously transports both of them into another dimension. There, Venus was overjoyed to find her family alive and well; they were happy to see her also, and had been peacefully living in a place they mistook for heaven.

Despite this happy revelation, all was not well for Venus. Guy's lingering feelings for his first love, U-Go Girl, often put a strain on their relationship, and Venus felt that she was in another woman's shadow. Venus resented U-Go Girl until she stumbled upon the secret diaries [X-Statix #10] that had belonged to her late romantic "rival"; after reading about the circumstances of Edie's life, Venus became sympathetic to Edie and put her jealousy aside. Becoming more confident Venus helped Dead Girl get revenge on the guy that killed her [X-Statix #12] ; helped Henrietta Hunter [X-Statix #18] , was one of the few who welcomed Vivisector back to the team [X-Statix #20] and fought alongside her team with when they battled the Avengers [X-Statix #25] .

After the Avengers mission, X-Statix decides to retire. They are convinced to go for one last mission, to deal with gunmen taking over a mansion. During this, helicopter gunships attack and Venus seemingly perishes while getting rid of them. The rest of X-Statix die in various ways. [X-Statix #26] .

Powers and abilities

Venus is a being made of pure energy, and without a special containment suit designed by Professor X, she would not even have a physical form. She uses her energy to teleport with pin-point accuracy, and she can also use it as a weapon or a healing aid.
