IMSL Numerical Libraries

IMSL (International Mathematics and Statistics Library) is a collection of software libraries of numerical analysis functionality that are implemented in widely used computer programming languages of C, Java, C#.NET, and Fortran. Using PyIMSL, developers also have the option to write programs in Python that leverage algorithms in the IMSL C Library. PyIMSL is a collection of Python wrappers to the math and statistical algorithms in the IMSL C Numerical Library. Software developers will typically embed algorithms from these libraries into their software applications, using their preferred programming language.

The first IMSL Library for the Fortran language was released in 1970, followed by a C language version originally called C/Base in 1991, a Java language version in 2002 and the C# language version in 2004. PyIMSL was released in August 2008.

The IMSL Libraries are provided by Visual Numerics Inc. Visual Numerics also provides complementary products, the PV-WAVE family, a Fourth-generation programming language (4GL) visual data analysis development environment.

IMSL Library customers include Fortune 500 companies and large multi-national corporations such as Goldman Sachs, large government laboratories such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ISVs such as Teradata, and universities such as Brigham Young University and the University of Alabama.
