Cogsworth is a fictional character in the Disney film "Beauty and the Beast".

He is featured as a guest in House of Mouse and .

Biography

Under the spell cast by the enchantress at the beginning of the film, he has taken the form of a pendulum clock, the hands of which do not tell the time but instead form a moustache, and whose arms are formed from the golden ornamentation at the clock's sides. A pendulum can be seen through his glass-fronted stomach. Cogsworth views himself as the leader of the cursed servants, but to the audience he acts as a restrained, conservative foil to the candlestick Lumiere, his best friend, who is more of a comedian.

Cogsworth also happens to be the most noticeably informed of the cursed servants. When Belle first arrives to the enchanted castle, it is Cogsworth who takes it upon himself to give her a heavily descriptive tour of the castle. During this tour, he is able to make several well-educated references to various architecture in the castle.

Friendship

Looking at Cogsworth's dialogue throughout the movie, it is understood that Lumière and Cogsworth had known each other for a long time, presumably longer than they have known the Prince. How they became friends is unknown.

Despite being at odds most of the time, Cogsworth saves Lumiere from Lefou when the castle is under attack. However, Cogsworth is much more afraid of the Prince then Lumière is, which causes him to appear uncaring when he insisted upon following the rules, though he does have his own tender side and can eventually be persuaded to have fun despite the rules.

When Cogsworth and Lumière first notice Belle, they believe that she is the one to break the spell. Lumiere claims that he told Cogsworth that he knew Belle would break the spell. Cogsworth denies it and states that he was the one who told Lumière and then they start fighting. They are later seen watching Belle and the Prince dance.

Kingdom Hearts II

In "Kingdom Hearts II" Cogsworth and the others had been trapped in the dungeon by the Beast after darkness over took his heart. Sora, Donald and Goofy arrive at Beast's Castle and free all of the trapped servants. Cogsworth explains the situation to the three heroes and ventures forth with them to restore the Beast to his rightful mind. They free the Beast from the influence of Xaldin when Sora combines his magic with Cogsworth's voice of reason.
