East African Airlines is an airline based in Kampala, Uganda. It operates services from Entebbe to countries in east and southern Africa, using aircraft leased as required. Its main base is Entebbe International Airport.Flight International 3 April 2007]

History

The airline was established in March 2002 and started operations on 2 December 2002. It was originally incorporated as Africa Air in March 2002, but the name was changed to East African Airlines on 17 May 2002. The airline is owned by Fin Investments (50%), Benedict Mutyaba (40%), President, Chairman and Chief Executive, and Patrick Kabunakuki (10%).

Destinations

Based at Entebbe, the main international gateway to Uganda, East African Airlines commenced its flight operations in November 2002 using a single Boeing 737-200 aircraft purchased from United Airlines. This aircraft was deployed on services to Kenya (Nairobi) and South Africa (Johannesburg). Services to these cities have been suspended indefinitely. More recently, services to Zimbabwe (Harare) and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) were launched using a Boeing 767-200 in partnership with Air Zimbabwe. These flights too have been suspended.
