The Main Suburban Railway Line through Stanmore was quadruplicated in 1892 [Australian Railway History, Vol 56, No. 810, April 2005] , and sextuplicated in 1927 in association with electrification works. [Sydney Electric Trains from 1926-1960, Australian Railway Historical Society Bulletin, April 2001.] The island platform between the 'Down Suburban' and 'Up Local' tracks was the original station house and entrance, this became the current island platform on completion of quadruplication works in 1892.
