Vikuiti, a
trademark , () is one of3M Company's seven strategic brands. The major products carrying the Vikuiti are Vikuiti Brightness Enhancement Films, that find their use inLCD displays in cell phones, laptops and desktop monitors.The brand was launched in 1997 and is primarily known in the
LCD display market, where 3M established a leading position, by being the first company to introduce prismatic brightness enhancement films called Vikuiti BEF followed by multilayer based reflective polarizer films called Vikuiti DBEF. The products enable more efficient use of the backlight, thereby increasing the brightness of displays. This effect can also be used to maintain display brightness while reducing power consumption, thus extending battery life in portable devices.In 2003 3M started to promote the brand into the newly developing LCD consumer TV market. 3M is copromoting the properties of LCD displays with several LCD TV manufacturers to the consumer market.
Vikuiti now basically covers
3M 's optical technologies.In 2007 the most important product categories under the brand name Vikuiti are Vikuiti Display Enhancement films (AR series anti-reflective films, PF and XRVS series privacy filters and IR series infra red filters); Vikuiti Projection Display Components (RPS series rear projection screens and RPF series rear projection films) and Vikuiti Super Close Projection products (DMS series projectors).
The brand's origin is a neology from the words visual and acuity, and is pronounced (vie CUE ah tee).
