The Polish Labor Party (Polska Partia Pracy, PPP) is a minor left-wingpolitical party inPoland , describing itself as "socialist".Fact|date=October 2007 It was created on November 112001 as the 'Alternative - Labor Party' (Alternatywa – Partia Pracy) and acquired its current name in 2004. The party is affiliated with the"Wolny Związek Zawodowy "Sierpień 80" - Konfederacja" trade union.The party is opposed to privatisation of state assets resulting from the post-communist reforms of the 1990s and supports increased state expenditure. It is opposed to Polish involvement in the
European Union and supports increased cooperation with Poland’s eastern neighbours, free education and health care, free (state funded)contraception andabortion s, recognition of same-sexcivil unions , the withdrawal of Polish troops fromIraq , the elimination of conscription and the introduction of a professional military, and the introduction of a 35 hour working week. It opposed the introduction of aflat tax and the introduction ofcapital punishment . The PPP also advocates a withdrawal from theconcordat between the Polish state and theCatholic Church .The Party’s candidate in the 2005 Polish presidential election,
Daniel Podrzycki , died in a car accident on September 24 2005, one day prior to the Parliamentary election.
