Mark Chung (born June 3, 1957 in Leeds, England[1]) is a German musician and music publisher, probably best known for his work as the bassist of the German band Einstürzende Neubauten.

Bio

Since 1980, Chung was a member of the German post-Punk band Abwärts from (Hamburg, Germany) and can be heard e.g. on their greatest hit "Computerstaat".[2][3]

In the early 1980s, he joined Einstürzende Neubauten as their bass player and financial chief of the band. After the recordings for the album Faustmusik in the mid- 1990s he left the band and made a career in the music industry.

Chung formed a publishing house called "Freibank Music Publishing" back in 1984, primarily for controlling and administering the copyrights of Einstürzende Neubauten, but Freibank Music Publishing offered this service also to related musicians and steadily grew.[4] In 1996 Chung moved to London, where he continued his work with Freibank and also became senior vice-president of Sony Music International.[4] After 9 years of working for Sony Music, he moved back to Germany and now directs the Freibank office in Berlin. In 2006, Mark Chung was elected Chairman of the German association of independent music companies VUT and he also sits on the board of the public private partnership Initiative Musik.[5]

He is married and has two sons and a daughter.
