Upper Coomera State College (UCSC), established in 2003, is a state school situated on the Gold Coast in the fast developing Coomera area. It is run by Education Queensland and as of 2007 has grades Prep-12. Currently the college is divided into 3 sub schools - Chisholm Junior School, Jakaara Middle School and Fensham Senior School. The school also is the temporary site of a Gold Coast City Council Library, which is until one is built at the Coomera Town Centre. Currently at construction stage 2 (of 3-4), this school is rapidly expanding with a projected 3,000 students by 2008. UCSC was also built to quickly blend into the developing surroundings that on average gains approximately one house every week.

Incidents

On the 8th of January at 10pm arsonists gained entry to the grounds and set a small fire in an office in the south east corner of one of the school buildings. Office furniture, office supplies and wiring in the building were destroyed by the blaze. There was approximately $60,000 worth of damage.

In 2007 during the end of term 4, a fight disrupted a senior rugby match between Upper Coomera State College and another school.

The making of history

On November 16, 2007, Upper Coomera State College saw the first cohort of year 12 students for the school. This history making event took months of planning to make the night memorable. The school's 'formal committee' oraganised the event. The school's first formal was held at the Sofitel Hotel and Resort in Broadbeach.

In 2007 Upper Coomera State College was runner up in the Gold Coast drama festival, a competition unique to the Gold Coast which enables younge actors to devise and perform a play of their choice. The winning performance was their adaptation of Daniel Evans 'Opening a Fuzzwollop's Frame of Mind.' An absurd comedy about a group of people stuck inside a room. As well as winning runner up, the two lead performers, playing odd couple Judith and Jethro Heartwig, each won a prestigous 'Outstanding Actor' award for their portrayal.
