It is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an American-based educational program from kindergarten I (4-year-olds) through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in1964 . The current superintendent is Rose Puffer.In the 2007-2008 school year, there were 52 full-time equivalent faculty members and 360 students.

The School is governed by a 9-member Board of Directors, 7 of whom are elected for 2-year terms by members of the International School of Islamabad Society, the sponsor of the School. The remaining 2 are appointees of the U.S. Ambassador. The School is not incorporated in the United States, but is registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1960 in Pakistan.

Curriculum
The curricula for grades K1-5 are self-contained with special teachers for art, foreign languages, music, computers, Host Nation and physical education. Additionally, band and choir are offered in grades 4-5. Grades 6-8 are semi-departmentalized with teaching teams at each grade level with emphasis on basic education, including the following courses: English, math, science, foreign languages, art, social studies, music computers, and physical education. Grades 9-12 provide a substantial 4-year college-preparatory program with some general education curricula, as well as 10
Advanced Placement courses. The School also offers special English-as-a-Second-Language classes and limited support for children with mild learning difficulties. The School is accredited by theMiddle States Association of Colleges and Schools .Facilities
The School is housed in a modern plant on approximately 23 acres and is equipped with an auditorium, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, 2 libraries, 3 computer laboratories, 4 science laboratories, a swimming pool, 2 tennis courts, and athletic fields with a running track.
Athletics
School teams are referred to as the Cobras, and the school colors are blue and white. As a member of the
South Asian International School Association , the school takes part in athletic conferences with other international schools fromPakistan ,Bangladesh ,India ,Nepal andSri Lanka . There are teams forbasketball ,cricket ,soccer ,swimming ,tennis ,track and field , andvolleyball among others.Fees
Annual tuition rates in 2007-2008 are as follows: Kdg. I: $4,680; Kdg.-5: $14,160; and grades 6-12: $14,765. The School also charges a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $150 and a one-time capital levy of $3,750. These fees are payable in U.S. dollars. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
