Cecil Hills is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Cecil Hills is located 38 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Liverpool and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region.

History

In 1817, John Wylde, the judge-advocate of New South Wales, was granted 2000 acres in the Parish of Cabramatta. He named his property Cecil Hills after his British property in Chestnut, Hertfordshire. He lived on the property only briefly before leaving to become Chief Justice of the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. His wife Elizabeth remained, however, and managed the property until her death in 1864. It continued as a farm through until the 1980s when it was decided to redevelop it for housing. The suburb of Cecil Hills was named in 1992 and includes part of the old Cecil Hills property along with other neighbouring properties. Cecil Hills High School opened in 1996 and it offers a comprehensive curriculum, including English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Commerce, Italian, Music, Visual Arts, Personal Development, Physical Education and Health and a variety of Technology subjects. Sport, School Choir, School Band Program, Computer Technology, Debating and Drama enhance the curriculum. Cecil Hills High School is equipped with the latest technology for computer networks and reference work through the Internet.

Cecil Hills High School has all the advantages which parents would expect of a new school, including the most up-to-date facilities and technology systems to enhance its curriculum. Stage I was completed at the end of 1995 and includes the present general classrooms, 6 Science Laboratories, 3 Computer Rooms, Library, Gymnasium, Sports fields and Basketball courts. The school is also fully cabled and networked to allow for computer-aided education. Stage II was completed in early 1997 and contains specialist rooms for Technology and Applied Studies, Creative Arts and Drama including an outdoor amphitheatre and a Performing Arts Workshop.

Cecil Hills Public School opened in 2003. Uniform is navy blue and white, with navy blue hats, essential for playing during lunch and recess, in effect having one of the school rules - No Hat No Play. This is to prevent the children from getting skin cancer in their future years as an adult.

The school is fairly large, with brick classrooms and demountables. In the playground, there are two basketball/netball courts, a big field for the children to play soccer or football on and then some other areas for handball. There is also a hopscotch and snakes and ladders board painted onto the floor for children to play on. There is a canteen, which sells fairly healthy foods for all students.
