Hendon is an area of Sunderland, North East England towards the east of the city. It remains the location of much heavy industry, along with Victorian terraces and high-rise residential tower blocks.

The old East End of Sunderland was home to barracks until the 1900s. These were located on the south side near the south docks, near present-day Warren Court (formerly known as Warren Street). The "Gladstone Bridge", the first aluminium bascule bridge in the world, spans the junction of Hendon and Hudson Docks. It is a listed structure. [ [http://www.sunderlandtoday.co.uk/mk4custompages/CustomPage.aspx?PageID=48879&sectionID=6045] ]

Since the decline of heavy industry and shipbuilding on the River Wear, Hendon has been considered to be one of the more deprived areas of the City of Sunderland.fact|date=March 2008
