Henry Street High School is located in
Whitby, Ontario within theDurham District School Board . The school has students in grades 9-12 and offers a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities. In athletics they are the Henry Street Hawks. Henery Street has an enrollment of 1000 students or more.Henry Street High School was founded in 1961.
Henry Street high school also offers a variety of courses varying from computers to drama. They also offer many art programs such as arts and crafts.
The current principal is Ms. Karakokkinos and the vice-principals are Ms. Black, and Mr. Rae.
Henry has a newspaper called "Word on the Street" that was founded in 2005.
Henry Street High School has no heating, nor does it have air conditioning, making it a tough school.Henry Street has a very good volleyball club, and other athletics too.
On April 22nd, 2008, the Henry Street High School Debate Team held its first annual open debate in the gymneteria (gymnasium and cafeteria) in front of an assembled audience of senior students. The topic of debate was: "Does Henry Street warrant an entry on Wikipedia?". After an initial split decision, a "silver tongue" overtime period (akin to the "Silver Goal" format of overtime in international and Olympic soccer)was held. This final round was awarded to the PRO-entry team due to technical foul from the CON team, following one member's ejection for use of expletives. The official HSHS entry was added to Wikipedia shortly after this event.
