Renishaw "Renishaw is a
village in the district ofNorth East Derbyshire inEngland .Renishaw lies in the A6135 Between the villages of
Eckington andBarlborough . To the west of the village is a section of theTrans Pennine Trail long distance footpath which runs along a former railway line. Adjacent to this is the route of theChesterfield Canal which also passes along the edge of the village. The canal is being restored in stages, with this section now having some clearance work done in preperation for section from Stavely to the south to be reinstated.To the North west of the village is
Renishaw Hall , the stately home of the Sitwell family, who at one time were owners of the local Iron foundry, prior tonationalisation . The Sitwell estate is now partially aGolf course. Renishaw Foundry was the main employer in the village for may years, prior to its closure in the late 1980s, asBritish Steel closed down non core parts of its business. The site is now part business park and part housing estate. The other main employment in the area was in the mining industry as the area had several pits some of which originally supplied the Iron works.The Route of the Midland Railway fromChesterfield toSheffield also passes the village in the valley to the west, prior to the building of the newer direct route throughDronfield and theBradway Tunnel to theSheffield Midland station . This route was originally theNorth Midland Railway , prior to consolidation fromDerby toLeed s.
