John Truby is a
screenwriter , director and screenwriting teacher. He is best known for thescreenwriting software program Blockbuster (orig. Writing a Blockbuster). His first feature film as writer/director wasAll American Boy .Truby argues that most teachers of screenwriting emphasize inner transformation of the characters but not the moral effect their actions have on others. He is critical of Syd Field's three-act “Paradigm” and has instead crafted his own 22-step outline.
His “Blockbuster” software program enables
screenwriter s to write their screenplays following his 22-step outline, with separate windows to focus on characters, theme and plot development. Because Truby believes that each filmgenre is different and must be mastered separately, the software has an additional 13 “add-ons” that are purchased separately or as part of adiploma package.Truby's first book "The Anatomy of Story: 22 Steps to Becoming a Master Storyteller" was published in October, 2007 by
