John Coughlin (footballer)

John Coughlin (born April 11 1963 in New York) is a former footballer and manager who currently manages Stenhousemuir F.C. He was formerly a player with Meadowbank Thistle F.C. and Berwick until injury forced him out of the game. He is a SJFA capped player from his time at Newtongrange Star F.C.

He was assistant manager to Tom Hendrie at Berwick, helping them win promotion in 1994, then they moved to Alloa Athletic where they performed the same feat in 1998. That year they moved to St Mirren and helped lead them to the championship in 2000. He was appointed manager in December 2002 but results faltered and he stood down the following November.

He took over at Berwick in May 2005. He won the Bells Manager of the Month prize for his teams unbeaten league run in August 2005 and also in September 2005. Another great run, in which a new club record of 8 league wins in a row in December 2006 and January 2007 saw John awarded the Manager of the Month award again, and saw them move to the top of the league. In April 2007 he guided Berwick to the Scottish Third Division championship, their first title since 1979. It was Coughlin's third championship title but the first in his own right.

However, following a poor start to the 2007-08 season Coughlin resigned as manager.

As of October 2007 John Coughlin is now manager of Stenhousemuir F.C. [cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/berwick_rangers/7032702.stm|title=Couglin resigns as Berwick boss|date=2007-10-07|accessdate=2007-10-07|publisher=BBC Sport]
