Soline

Soline is a small Croatian village on the island Dugi otok in the bay of Solinšćica. It is located in Zadar county, and the name is derived from the Croatian word "sol" which means salt.

One kilometer west is the bay of Saharun commonly referred to by locals as 'Sakarun', widely considered the most beautiful beach on the island.

The village was founded in the 12th century and has the church of St. Jacob which was built in the 1500s and decorated in the 19th century.

The village has two piers for small and medium sized ships and just over 100 homes. The Annual Festa or festival is held on July 25. The summer time population is generally 500 or more people on any given week and consists mostly of the descendants of the year round residents who vacation on the island.

The village is primarily residential. Electricity originally came to the village in 1963 and phone service was not widely available during Yugoslavian occupation. Most homes did not get private phone lines until the after the Homeland War.

At the peak of it population, over 350 people lived in the village and two separate schools were run. One of which is used a civic center of sorts and the other mostly decade due to lack of maintenance.
