Llechryd

Llechryd (pronounced|ɬɛxrɪd) is a village lying on the A484 road approximately convert|3|mi|km from Cardigan, in Ceredigion, Wales. Its name derives from the Welsh for "Slate Ford" ("Llech + Rhyd"), as slate from nearby quarries was once transported along the canal (which has since been demolished).

The village is approximately two miles long, and includes the Llechryd Cricket & Tennis Club [http://www.llechrydctc.co.uk/] , Robert Davies Garage, a water treatment facility, Llechryd General Store the village shop, the local pubs the Carpenter's Arms (inn) and the Seven Stars, and Llechryd primary school.

Most of the village has been built along the A484 going down into the valley, although some estates branch off the road.

Llechryd Bridge

The River Teifi is crossed at Llechryd by an ancient Drovers' road bridge which can be wholly submerged by the river at times of high flood (see below). The current structure was built in the 17th century. It was damaged in 2005 by a large flood.

Flooding

Because certain parts of the village are close to the River Teifi, floods happen fairly regularly during Winter months. The first flood of 2007 was on the 5th of March, in which the bridge was flooded, meaning inhabitants wishing to cross the bridge would have to go to Cardigan and then through Cilgerran in order to circumvent the flood.

Teifi Trout Association

The TTA owns the trout fishing rights from the eastern side of the bridge upwardscite web |title=TTA maps|url=http://www.teifitrout.com/Maps.htm] , although some plots of land by the river are privately owned.
