Bromatology

Bromatology

Bromatology (from Greek _gr. βρῶμα, "brōma", "food"; and _gr. -λογία, "-logia") is the study of food (or aliments).

Bromatology serves two main purposes:
# to avoid ingestion of food contaminated with toxic elements (arsenic, mercury, lead,...),
# to control the nutritive value of staple foods (detection of elevated water content of non-nutritive materials).
